Call for Artists

The New Haven Chalk Art Festival

Saturday, August 20th, 10am - 6pm - The Shops at Yale, Broadway Island, 56 Broadway, New Haven, CT (across from Apple / J.Crew / Urban Outfitters)

All professional and amateur artists are invited to participate in The New Haven Chalk Art Festival.

All artwork will be judged by local chalk artist, Michael Micinilio, for the Grand Prize, a $500 gift card to Hull's Art Supply & Framing.

Prizes will be awarded in each age division by People's Choice: Youth - ages 6-12, Teen - ages 13-17, Adult - ages 18+, Adult Group - minimum 2 artists 18+.

There is no cost to participate.

Artists will be given a 3' x 3' square, on a black asphalt surface.

Pre-registration is required.

Hamden Art League's Silverbells Art Exhibition to open November 18th

The Annual Silverbells Art Exhibition and Sale by members of the Hamden Art League will afford viewers an extended viewing period this year, running from November 18, 2015 to January 5, 2016. The popular event, at the Miller Memorial Library Senior Center, 2901 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, Connecticut provides an opportunity for the public to view and shop, as many of the works will be available for purchase. A wide array of original art includes paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor as well as graphics, mixed media and pastel. The exhibition may be viewed Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, December 8th, a Reception will take place in the Social Hall of the Senior Center from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. During this much-anticipated event, there will be a raffle of art related items and the presentation of awards to winning artists, as selected by an invited juror. Several monetary awards are generously donated by various local businesses and benefactors.

Both the show and reception are open to the public. If the library is closed due to inclement weather, the reception will be cancelled and possibly rescheduled.

League members are residents of Hamden, North Haven, Cheshire, New Haven, West Haven, Meriden, Milford, Orange, Woodbridge, Bethany and surrounding towns.

New this year, the Hamden Art League, with the cooperation of the Miller Library Senior Center, will be opening the display space at the Senior Center for monthly exhibitions by members of HAL.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our members to have a space to display their work to the public.

1) Christ Presbyterian Church 135 Whitney Ave.,New Haven, CT has wall space in the church fellowship hall for art exhibitions and can be available for receptions as new exhibitions are installed.

2) Size of framed art should not exceed 36" Any medium is accepted including photography except sculpture. There is no charge for installing art and the church art committee reserves the right of refusal of any artwork presented.
3) Art must be framed and wired for hanging, no brackets please.

4) No commission will be paid to the church and it's expected work will remain in place for 4-6 weeks.

5) We show artwork of any medium that can go on the wall. As the room is used by many children, we do not feel we can adequately protect sculpture. Our only other rule is that work be appropriate for audiences of all ages. If you wouldn't want to explain it to a 3 year old, chances are others don't want to either. Lastly, if you are willing to share about your work, we love having art openings!
